The Universal Exercise unit, "UEU", or Spider Cage, is a 3-sided structure made-up of a metal frame for hooking weighted bungees and pulleys connected to a belt system that allows patients to move for freely and stand without assistance by decreasing or eliminating the gravitational force.
While inside the UEU, patients wear a belt and harnessing system that allows for the attachment of up to ten bungee cords. The patient is then semi-suspended in the middle of the cage with unique support received through the elastic cords, this allows therapists to facilitate the strengthening of weak muscles while decreasing compensatory movements. The elastic cording is extremely dynamic and provides just the right amount of input needed to support the patient, yet allow them to move more freely and independently.
The UEU also contains a pulley system that has a range of weighted sandbags that can be implemented into almost any exercise. Resistance training promotes neuroplasticity for increased strength gains as well as sensory integration!
